Explorers is for the older Scouts aged between 14 & 18, who like to do more adventurous activities than Scouts. Explorers are expected to organise themselves with support from the Leaders rather than being lead by the Leaders. A lot of the Explorers help out as Young Leaders with the other sections of the Group.

What Have We Been Up To?

November saw our Explorers go on a one night Winter Camp at Buckmore Park with the Scouts., there they got to do challenges toward they Ton of Fun Badge and enjoy a firework display. They then got to attend a firework display organised by the 25th Medway and District swimming night at the Cascades Leisure Centre. There followed a night of Ton of Fun Badge challenges to finishes the badge including tug-of-wars, dancing and building freestanding paper towers.

December started with our Explorers helping our Scout Troop with their Community Challenge Night. They organised a hike for the other Explorers from across the District to attend where they walked from Hoo to Cobham and stayed overnight in Cobham Church before they had the chance to go ice skating at the Silver Blades ice rink in Gillingham. The last meeting of the month was the annual Christmas party, the Explorers helped the Group raise funds by bag packing at Tesco. After Christmas our Explorers went to see Disney on Ice at Wembley Arena.

Our Explorers began the New Year with a Japanese themed night where they made traditional Japanese fish kites in preparation for one of their number going to Japan for the World Jamboree later in the year. They also joined the Scouts on a night hike around the Peninsular.

What Are We Going To Be Doing?

To start February our Explorers will have another Japanese themed night making Daruma Dolls, they will also be running a Valentine's Night for the Scouts where they will be making sweets and cards.

In March our Explorers will learn new skills and pass on some of their knowledge to the younger Scouts when they do three nights of Scout Skills. There is also a Winter Sports night at Capstone Park for them to attend.

Because of the Easter holidays there will only one meeting during April, at this they will have a former Explorer returning to talk to them about going to University. The Unit will be also be joining the rest of the Group for the St George's Day Parade and Service in Rochester.
