A Scout's Life - Blog Post New Entry

September 2012

During September, the 50th Medway Towns Scout Group has been very busy.

The beavers have been looking at Healthy eating and have been preparing different foods. They have made banana and strawberry milkshakes, the banana ones tasting better! The beavers have also looked at different fruits and tasting them. They saw different fruits that some of the beavers had never seen before. Even some of the leaders had not seen the fruits! The beavers have built up their team working skills through making the smoothies together and tasting the fruits. They have also built up the skills by playing games which they have had to work together and other games which they need to support each other to help another beaver win.

The cubs have been working on their cyclist’s badge, which included learning how to get on/off a bike, how to ride a bike, testing to see if the cubs can ride and also how to look after the bike and the maintenance of it. The cubs have enjoyed the cyclists badge as they got to have hands on experience with the bikes as they got to bring in their own bike and do what the leader was doing on their bike. The cubs have played lots of games and they have developed their skills in teamwork and their knowledge of different skills needed for the games. The cubs have had a games night in which they had lots of fun and worked together in teams as well as competitively.

The scouts and explorers have been working on their first aid badges stages 2 and 3. The scouts and explorers have had to learn how to do the recovery position, mouth to mouth, CPR and how to treat broken bones, burns and how to deal with them. They have also learnt how to call the emergency services and what to say when you are on the phone to the services. The scouts and explorers have welcomed new members in to the troupe, and played different games to get in to the evening meeting.

Overall, the group has had a good month and is looking forward to what October brings their way.
